My Shiny New Beryl....

So I finally got the parts for my new PC and set it all up on Saturday. Had loads of problems getting the darn thing to boot, but it turns out that was only down to Memory.

The spec of my new PC is as follows:
  • AMD AthlonXP 64bit 4000+ CPU
  • 1gb of DDR2 800 Ram
  • NVidia GeForce 7600GT Graphics Card
So after fixing the ram problem I experienced I installed the standard Windows XP on Sunday, along with all the drivers etc...

... Then once I'd finished I installed Linux, Ubuntu to be exact. I chose Ubuntu firstly because it was the first distro I'd come across and also because I haven't found anything better. Ubuntu has come along very nicely since the first version I used (5.10) and its not going to be long before its 'Ready for the Desktop'.

I had lots of trouble trying to install the NVidia drivers to get 3D working but because I was pissing about to much I messed it up once I finally figured out I just needed to install it from the repositories. So I did a fresh install and added the drivers via repo.

Then I installed Beryl using this tutorial, which was one of the simplest things ever.... then I loaded it up and WOW is it cool, I admit pointless but very very cool. I'd seen lots of videos on YouTube (as I was curious) and the videos don't do it justice, really, you have to be running it to see how good it is.

The Burning Windows, the Transparency, the Wobbly Windows and the Rotating Cube are all great. You soon get tried of it and it begins to get annoying but you just turn off the annoying features like burning on minimise and am sure once I fine-tune it so its less intrusive it'll be great.

Anyway checkout the screen shots or even Ubuntu its self, if your tired of all them viruses.
