Finally Less Spam
Like most people, i get alot of spam, well i have like close to 30 (easily more) email addresses so i do get rather alot.
ive tried alot of things to get rid of my spam, and nothing seemed to really work (hay, i use Outlook, what'd you expect).
I tried Thunderbird a over a year ago, and it was great, the antispam filters were great, i did really like it.... but TBH i didnt really like the calendar, Thunderbird doesnt come with a calendar as part of it, so you need to get a plugin from the Mozilla Addon site. And it doesnt really intergrate well with thunderbird. it kind of ... well is just a button that loads a calendar, easy to ignore the calendar and important events.
And it wasnt just a calendar that stopped me using Thunderbird, it was the fact that i got a PDA for my 21st, which runs Windows Mobile 2003 SE and since its Windows... Microsoft want to lock you in, so you can only Sync with Outlook, meaning my calendar, contacts, notes and all the other stuff only sync with Outlook, so i couldnt use Thunderbird anymore.
I recently tried out an anti spam filter called Spam Bully with a 30day trial, but to be quite honest it sucked. It worked the same as Outlooks (attempt) of anti-spam filtering.... by you telling it the email is spam, they log the sender, future emails from that sender became spam. yeah that would work, if spammers used their own email address - but they dont you get stuff like "sgdfgdfg@ssfghggf.com" so it fails to work.
So after my 30 day trial, i uninstalled it, and havent missed it one bit.
What i wanted, was a nice little program that worked like Thunderbird, an Anti-Spam program that would learn over time, get smarter and smarter with every spam email i get, as it seems to be the only effective way of dealing with spam.
But last week i was on a forum reading a post about spam and somebody mentioned an Anti Spam program, so i decided to give it a try, i think its Open Source, meaning its free... well its definately free which is cool.
So i installed it and nothing special, untill around a week later when i started to notice that i was getting less spam, and most of it seemed to go to the Junk folder. And best of all, its one of those programs that learn, and get smarter, i dont really know the acctual technical details, but if you really want to know more, have a read of this page on their site.
So if your using Outlook and want to get rid of spam, try Spam Bayes, it seems to work pritty damm well, and i'll proberly keep it untill i finally move to Linux. But, if however, you havent got an email client yet, i suggest getting Thunderbird, as that worked just as well, and was a nice email client.
If you want either Spam Bates or Thunderbird, try the links below.
